You have to be extra careful when selecting a hotel or hostel when you're a female solo traveler. You're looking for a place that is safe and secure and also will make you feel comfortable and welcome. Here are some things to consider when picking a hotel or hostel as a female solo traveler:
-Safety is your number one priority when selecting a hotel or hostel. Look for one that has locks on all the doors. My hotel didn't have a lock and I had to put my luggage and a chair to ensure my door was "safe". Also, it's also good to purchase a portable door lock.
-Make sure that the staff is friendly and helpful and that they speak a language you're familiar with (email the hotel or hostel to ask them this question) it's a nightmare to be in a hotel where you can't communicate with the staff.
-The location of the hotel or hostel is also important. It is better to be close to the sights and attractions you want to visit and located in a safe area with shops and restaurants. I made a mistake by booking a hotel that's far from the city center and it was really difficult for me.
-Nearby public transportation. If you choose a cheap hotel that's far from public transportation then you'll spend whatever money that you saved on the hotel, on transportation instead.
-Make sure the hotel or hostel is clean and well-maintained.
-It's important that the hotel or hostel has the amenities you need or at least offers the basics.
-Read real reviews from previous guests. This will give you an idea of what to expect and will help you make an informed decision.
-Read the fine print because some hotels may have additional fees or restrictions that could impact your stay. My hotel made me pay for a 100 euros deposit when I was checking in, and you don't want this kind of surprise.
-When in doubt, go to a travel agency to make your booking and ask the agent about the solo female travelers-friendly options.
